Title: Social Worker/School Psychologist
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Month
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
- Respond to day-to-day issues and unanticipated student crises during the school day.
- Deescalate students in crisis.
- Physically intervene when students are a danger to themselves or others.
- Collect and analyze data related to student behavior.
- Provide regular counseling to students in need of social and emotional support in an educational setting; this includes both mandated counseling to students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) as well as individual and group counseling to other students as needed.
- Act as liaison between community-based organizations, students and their families, and the BOCES
- Create programs for students to promote emotional and mental health.
- Facilitate the creation and implementation of functional behavioral assessments (fba) and behavior intervention plans (bip)
REQUIREMENTS
- Experience as a Social Worker/School Psychologist/School Counselor
- Working knowledge of the instructional and social needs of students at risk and students with disabilities
- Ability to design and implement in-school prevention programming according to current best practices
- Ability to simultaneously manage a regular counseling schedule and triage crises
- Ability to prioritize multiple competing urgent tasks
- Ideal candidates will have strong interpersonal skills, expertise in behavioral modification, crisis intervention, de-escalation, and special education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: NYS Certified School Social Worker, or NYS Certified Psychologist, or NYS Certified School Counselor
