TITLE: Physical Education Teacher ANTICIPATED
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Month
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: The Physical Education Teacher will be responsible for ensuring children develop physical abilities and healthy habits that can last for the rest of their lives. The primary function for the PE teacher is to develop in each pupil an understanding of the relationship of good body function and exercise; to motivate each pupil to cultivate physical fitness, hygienic habits, and good social and emotional adjustment; to discover and develop talents of pupils in physical achievement; to develop strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual, and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each pupil’s ability.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Enables students to work toward their IEP goals and plan lessons accordingly.
- Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual, or team sports, utilizing appropriate learning activities.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members to help students improve health, behavior, and learning needs.
- Supervises students during the assigned work day.
- Participates in curriculum developmental.
- Participates in faculty committees
- Participates in school-wide student activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: NYS Physical Education Certification
